Has the reality of your fantastic Macau win set in yet?

“The Macau weekend was one of the highlights of my career. I was very emotional after the race because it has long been an ambition of mine to win that race and to join the list of such well-known winners. I have had time for the result to sink in but I think it will always bring a smile to my face when I think about what we achieved with Signature and Volkswagen.”

Does that result suggest a permanent return to Formula 3 is on the cards for you in 2010?

“We are still in the process of evaluating all the options for next season, but I am not ruling anything out. It was a challenging year for me in GP2 this season but that is now the established route to get to Formula 1, which is my ultimate goal. I think it is possible to achieve that by taking a more unconventional path but for me it is important to continually demonstrate my ability to be competitive and to win races.”

What do you think of the recent young drivers F1 test in Jerez?

“I have taken a keen interest in what has happened in Jerez with the group of young drivers and I am really frustrated that I could not be there with them. Winning Macau achieved one of my dreams and I hope that will be a stepping stone to accomplishing the next goal which is to break into Formula 1. I think my performances in Macau showed I have the talent to make that step, I just need somebody to believe in my capabilities.”

Is there any truth in rumours you are set to return to Formula 3?

“There is a lot of speculation about my future, but for me the priority is to be in a position to win races and to continuously develop myself as a well-rounded driver. There is no question that GP2 has established itself in the last few years as the Formula 1 feeder series with drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg and Timo Glock all making a seamless transition but it is not necessarily the best option for everybody, particularly with the costs that are often associated with it. I have a clear ambition to reach Formula 1, so I have to make the best career move with that ultimate goal in mind.”
